2017 Fall Opportunities for Teachers

REC Foundation and TVA Robotics Partnership

TVA is funding a project to support VEX robotics teams in every school in TN!
By applying, each school will receive a VEX Super Competition Robot Kit, Programming software, free curriculum, and teacher training to insure that your students can compete successfully during this 2017-18 season and beyond.
Your financial responsibility will be to register your team for competitions each year ($150) and compete in at least one qualifying event during the season. Those tournament fees typically range from $25-$50 per team and will occur at locations throughout the state from Oct-Feb, with the State Championship held in March and the World Championship in April.
VEX IQ is recommended for Elementary age children and VRC for High schools.  Middle Schools may choose either.
Click here for the application instructions.  It will take about 15 minutes to complete and awards will be issued starting in September.
New teacher training workshops will be offered in locations throughout the state during October, November, and December.
The Regional Support Manager for TN VEX robotics is Shelli Brasher, Shelli_Brasher@roboticseducation.org, 901-486-9618.  She is available to work with teachers, administrators, parents, and students to insure successful programs.  Feel free to contact her for additional information!

At TheCo
541 Wiley Parker Rd.
Jackson, TN 38305

Jackson Area Robotics would like to invite interested teachers and students to participate in our weekly Vex Robotics build sessions.  Our team currently meets on Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 7:30 at theCo, located at 541 Wiley Parker Rd. Teachers interested in seeing what we are doing should feel free to drop by anytime during our build sessions.  Students who are interested in participating are welcome to join us and learn more.  At this time, there are no fees associated with participation, nor are students required to provide anything but imagination. There are no prerequisites; students learn by doing.  We have builders who are experienced as well as brand new.  There are no age requirements, but the work we are doing is best geared to high school students and mature middle school students.   We do ask that all students under the age of 14 have a parent present during the build session, as Jackson Area Robotics cannot be responsible for supervision.
On September 23rd, Jackson Area Robotics will be hosting an informal Vex Robotics scrimmage at theCo, located at 541 Wiley Parker Rd.  This will be a great opportunity for area teachers, teams, and students to come learn what Vex robotics is all about.  Doors will open at 8:00 am for robot inspection.  All robots must check in before 8:30 and matches will start by 9 am.  The cutoff for signing up a robot to compete is September 8th.  There is a $10 fee per robot. Late lunch is on your own after the event approximately 2 pm.   Interested participants need to contact Belinda Stone listed below for specifics and prefer you attend one build session at theCo if possible.  (This is an informal scrimmage and does not qualify for VEX points.)  Everyone is invited to stop by on September 23rd and check us out.
For more information, please contact Belinda Stone or Rebecca Weaver at Liberty Technology High School in Jackson.
